Just for today, I am abandoning all my emotions and all my foolish feelings, I am sending them on a vacation. A coastal island getaway seems to be just right, where I will be breathing in cool ocean breezes and soaking daily in the warmth of the sun. All seems well and my affections appear to be thriving, while dashed hopes and despair all whittle away.
I am able to commune with God more clearly, when I walk away from my own humanness, which would creep back in, if not kept in check. However, without notice or warning an impending storm is announced and an advisory to evacuate the island is publicly broadcasted.
Concerns all seem to flood my soul, as I quickly run to the commander of the sea. He leads me safely to higher ground, but the waters seem to keep rising and Fear was nearby. I could see that even the most dinged boats are quickly being repaired and commissioned for active duty!
Still, my Love does not wish to flee so quickly, as there was much to be done. Soon there was no choice, for the clouds darkened within my heart and Love realized it was time to leave. Unfortunately, there were no more boats and all my Love was left to look around with only Hope by its side.
Just then, Prosperity sailed by in a luxurious yacht. Love quickly shouted out, Prosperity, could you please take me into your craft?" "No," replied Prosperity, "my vessel is full of precious possessions, gold and silver. There is no place for you, Love!"
Shortly thereafter, Vanity came by in a beautiful cruiser. Again, Love shouted out, "Would you help me, Vanity? I am stranded and need a lift. Please take me with you!" Vanity responded haughtily, "No, I cannot take you with me, my boat will get soiled with your muddy feet! What would my friends think? No, I can not take you with me!"
Soon Sorrow passed by and once again, and with an aching heart, Love asked for help. But asking was to no avail, as Sorrow was lingering in Sadness. "No, I cannot take you with me. I am depressed and I wish to be by myself!"
When Happiness passed by a few moments later, Love once again called out for help. But Happiness was so thrilled, it would not take time to look around. You see Happiness is hardly concerned about anyone else.
Fierce waves begin to crash in and around Love, her Faith began to waver. Just then Love's eye caught sight of another vessel. Love hesitated, as she called out to Doubt, "Do you think I can sail with you to safety?" Doubt looked around and saw Fear crowding in on Love. "No, I have no room for you Love! My own fears, insecurities and anxieties have filled my ship!"
Concerned, Love's passion was beginning to grow restless and dejected. Just then, someone called out, "Come Love, I will take you with me." Love did not know who was being so benevolent, but was so thankful she leaped on the ship, greatly relieved that she would reach safety once more. Once on board the boat, Love met Knowledge and Wisdom. Bewildered, Love inquired, "Knowledge, do you know who so generously gave me a lift, when it seemed no one else cared to help?" Smiling, Knowledge answered Love, "Oh, that was Time."
"And, why would Time stop to pick me up and take me to safety?" Love wondered. Knowledge, tenderly and with Wisdom replied, "Because only Time knows your true greatness and what you are capable of. Only you Love, can dispel all Fears, and that will bring Peace and great Joy into this world!"
When we are prosperous, we tend to overlook Love. When we are vain, we forget love. In happiness and sorrow we become oblivious to Love. And, we all know that doubt questions Love! It is only with time, that our knowledge and wisdom realizes the importance of Love. But, why wait that long? God has shown us a better way!
For while we were still in our sin, God sent His only Son Jesus, to die for all mankind. No one could ever love us, the way God has. Jesus came to show us a better way to live, because Love is the only characteristic He wants to grow in us. Love for one another, for our spouses, for our children, our friends and even our enemies.
Love is one of God's greatest commandments and yields the strongest emotions that truly come from the heart of Christ! He works in each of us to cultivate Love, Joy, Peace, Faith, Gentleness, Goodness, Meekness, Longsuffering and of course Temperance. Of course with these virtues comes, true Knowledge and Wisdom!
Why not take a vacation from your emotions today!! Put on Love and sail away with Joy and Hope, just for today!
