WHAT IS FAITH
Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. This is FAITH!
TWELVE LONG YEARS OF SUFFERING
Maybe you know the story of the woman who had suffered for twelve years with a condition of hemorrhaging. A long succession of doctors had treated her, and not only did they treat her--they treated her badly.
They took all of her money and left her worse off than she was before she saw them. Now Jesus had just crossed over the waters by boat, and a large crowd met him at the seaside.
There was an entire crowd tagging along, pushing, jostling, and bumping into Him, they knew that He had the power to heal them. And, if they could just get to Him... perhaps He would heal them.
PUSHING THROUGH THE CROWD
I can see this poor, weak, and weary woman trying to push through the crowd that was all around her. She had to work much harder than the crowd around her simply because of the blood loss she had been suffering with.
She must have been thinking to herself, "If I can put a finger on his robe, I can get well." And that is exactly what happened, when she saw his sandals, she reached up and touched the hem of his robe and the flow of blood instantly dried up.
She could feel the changed and knew her plague was over and done with. However, at the same time, Jesus felt his virtue discharge from Him.
WHO TOUCHED ME
Jesus turned around to the crowd that was following Him and asked, "Who touched my robe?" His disciples said, "Lord, what are you talking about?"
With this large crowd pushing and shoving you, why would you ask, "Who touched me?" Dozens of these people have touched you.
JESUS LOOKED INTO THE CROWD
Jesus asked again as he looked around to see who had done it. Who had touched Him.
The woman, knowing what had happened, knowing she was the one Jesus was asking about, stepped up in fear and trembling and told Him her whole story, as she wondered if He wold be angry with her.
Jesus simply said to her, "Daughter, your faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague."
THE RISK
This woman, whom Jesus called 'Daughter' had crawled on the ground, through all the pushing and pressing... fighting her way pass the large crowd... until she saw the robe of Jesus.
We are told that with FAITH on her mind, she took the risk of seeking the Lord, with all her might and then she reached out and touched the hem of His garment or robe.
THE GREAT REWARD
I believe this woman was rewarded for her FAITH because she kept going, she kept pursuing, she refused to give up, no matter how large the crowd was. She persevered and she received by FAITH her healing.
I have seen a blind person healed instantly, and I've seen a deaf person healed after a season of prayer, one received sight and the other sound. I can not tell you why one healing was instant and why one took a period of praying.
But I do know, they came to Jesus... BELIEVING and received what they needed by their FAITH in Him!
GOD LOOKS INTO OUR HEARTS
Just as Jesus looked into the crowd, He also looks into our hearts. Are we asking, seeking and pursuing our Savior with a heart like the woman who was healed?
It is just like the town that came together to pray for rain, still only one had enough FAITH to bring an umbrella. So we have to ask ourselves, "What kind of FAITH do we come to Jesus with, is it with an umbrella or is it with perseverance
that what we ask for... will happen!!
