A young soldier, who was known for his nobility and honesty, went to his minister to ask him for advice. When his pastor had him come in and take a seat, the soldier asked, "Why do I feel so inferior? I have faced the battlefield and death so many times and I have defended those who were weaker than I. Yet, I feel like my life has no meaning, no importance whatsoever."
The preacher just looked at the young man as he went on, "I want to really make a difference in this world. I want my life to truly count for something!"
His pastor replied, "Wait, before I answer, I want you to go to the park and just sit on a bench and observe what is around you." Anger seemed to build in the young man, as he thought to himself, this preacher probably doesn't even have an answer for me.
Still, out of respect he dutifully went to the park, sat down and watched his surroundings.
The soldier watched as dogs caught Frisbees, children played and new mothers took their babies for a stroll. He saw a young couple having a picnic and an older man reading a book.
That evening the soldier went back to his pastor and asked, "Do you have an answer for me? The pastor invited him into his office, there moonlit beams shone into the room. The minister asked, "Do you see the moonbeams and how truly beautiful the moon is? It will cross the entire firmament, and tomorrow the sun will shine once more!"
The preacher went on, "Son, the sunlight is so much brighter than the moon and it can show the details of the landscape around us... trees, mountains, clouds." The soldier tried to quickly respond, however the preacher spoke again, "Do you think that the moon is inferior to the sun, because it does not shine the same way?"
"Of course not" answered the soldier. "The moon and the sun are different things, each has its own beauty. You cannot compare the two!"
"So you know the answer, young man. We are two different people, each fighting in his own way for that which he believes and we are making it possible for the world to be a better place; the rest are mere appearances!"
Do you ever get tired of your everyday, ordinary life? Do you get up, eat, go about your day, eat, try to finish the days work, eat again, go to sleep... and then do it all over again the next day?
Our lives can become customary and familiar. At times they can simply feel drab, humdrum and routine to us. We may feel at times that our particular daily duties are uninspired and not as important as other lives may be.
Nonetheless, this not so!! It is a lie straight from the devil himself!! When we get up we must give our days to God and let Him have full reign over all we do on a daily basis! Nothing done for God is mundane!!
If you have given your day to God, and you are a stay at home mom, tending to your children by cooking, feeding, washing loads of laundry or simply reading a Dr. Zeus book... YOUR JOB IS IMPORTANT! Maybe more so, because you are raising a generation for God's Kingdom!!
Never compare yourself to others! Fix your attention on God, letting Him organize your daily plans. God's will is to bring out the best in you. When we give Him our time, He brings the changes to our lives from the inside out! Godly maturity will form within our hearts and minds.
The only precise way to know and interpret ourselves, is by what God is and what He will do in our lives. It is never by who we are and what we can do for Him!
From the highest office in the United States... to the most inferior being... God loves us and will work through us... if only we ask Him to!
So, my friend... start your day with God! Give Him the first fruits of your day by reading His Word, giving Him praise and saying a prayer! In these simplistic tasks, you will find God does His most intricate works!!
