PSALM 27:4&8
In Psalm 27, David shows the appropriate attitude while surrounded by violence and malice in this fallen world: trust in the Lord. Now, he writes about our longing.
Most naturally, what we want the most while surrounded by cruelty is protection and deliverance. Above all, however, David states that the believer must yearn to be with the Lord.
God uses the evil around us to reveal the innermost desires of our hearts.
Following our appropriate longing, David discusses our reaction before evil. There is nothing wrong in seeking protection from dangers in this world.
Sin is born when we place our trust in our own defense mechanisms instead of God. Regardless of the problem, the believer reacts appropriately when he cries out to God first.
THOUGHT TO PONDER: Think of the last time you were surrounded by troubles. What did you want the most and what was your first response to the issue??
