Colossians 3:13,14
A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to just drop and read.
She was engrossed in her book but happened to see that a man sitting beside her was a bold as he could be. He grabbed a cookie or two from the bag that was them, not wanting to make a scene, she tried to ignore him. She continued to munch on her cookies and watched the clock as the gutsy cookie thief drained her stock.
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I would blacken his eye!" With each cookie she took -- he took one too and when only one was left she wondered what he would do.
With a smile on his face and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought... "Oh brother, if I wasn't a lady!" This guy has some nerve and he's also rude, why didn't he even show any gratitude!!!
She had never known when she had been so galled and sighed with relief when her flight was finally called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate. She boarded the plane, sank into her seat, then she sought her book which was almost complete.
As she reached into her baggage, she gasped with surprise -- there was her bag of cookies in front of her eyes. If mine are here she moaned in despair -- the others were his and without complaint -- he had shared them with me.
It was too late to apologize, she realized with grief -- knowing she had been the rude one -- the ingrate -- the thief!!
My friend, when we are children of God -- we have been given a new kind of life! We are to emulate our Lord with a tender heart, mercy and kindness to others, because we now share in the love of Jesus!
Our suffering, our difficulties and our pride must be set aside -- as we wait and lean on Jesus through it all. Our hearts must always be ready to forgive -- just as He has forgiven us our sins. We must not get caught up in the little irritations that this life will present -- we have a far greater focal point and goal!
When we jump to conclusions and act upon our own feelings -- we often will skip over the truth -- and we may find that it is too late to make amends....
So, let the love of Jesus guide your life -- let His peace fill your heart in all that you do! It is our love that will set us apart from the rest of this world -- when our love shines brighter than our actions -- people will see Jesus working in our lives!
