Seven Secrets of a Champion

2. He Engages in Strenuous Training
A runner who is determined to win the race knows that it will require serious training. He will need to practice personal disciplines that will allow him to build up strength and stamina for the race. His disciplines will produce physical pain. However, he disregards this because he knows the truth of the axiom, “No pain—No gain!” Paul had this concept in mind when he declared, “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” ( 1 Corinthians 9:27 )
The champion knows that it is not just practice that makes perfect, but it is perfect and precise practice that produces excellence. Yes, there is much repetition in that preparation. But it is precisely that intensity of focus that produces the heart of a champion. When the competition begins, there is no further opportunity to correct past mistakes. The true champion is able to respond reflexively to the challenges that are before him. He is already trained for the battle.
We wage a war for our souls, and for the souls of all around us. The training of our spirits under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit will prepare us to run with perseverance and excellence the race of our lives. It will equip us to inspire others to the same race. It will ultimately bring honor and glory to the God who daily equips us and prepares us for the challenges He knows we must overcome to obtain the prize.
Look to Him. Listen daily to His teachings and promptings. Get to know His voice. Find strength in His Presence. Learn the secrets of renewed strength. Be encouraged in His limitless provisions. Find hope in His promises. Find purpose in His calling. Fulfill the destiny He has ordained for you. Take joy in that which He directs in life. See the greater picture of life through the eyes of God.
Develop these disciplines daily and do not despise the chastening moments in your training. God is accomplishing a great and mighty purpose in your life, even beyond what you can imagine. He brings true joy in life.
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 104:33, 34
