A man was given a rose bush which he planted and watered faithfully. One day while he was examining the rose bush he saw a bud that would soon blossom... however he also noticed some thorns. He thought to himself, "How can any flower, as beautiful as the rose... come from a plant that is burdened with so many sharp thorns?" As he thought about it... his heart became saddened and before long... he stopped watering and caring for the rose bush. It wasn't long before the rose bush died... without ever having truly bloomed.
My Christian friend... there are so many of us who are not blooming... because our God-like qualities that were planted within us at birth... are growing among the thorns... or our faults. We tend to keep our eyes on our defects and soon become discouraged and think nothing good could ever come from us. We neglect to take care of ourselves... we don't read our Bibles or pray... and ultimately we fail to bloom into anything and everything God wants us to be.
Jesus... because of His love was able to look past our faults. In Zacchaeus, Jesus saw a man who had really messed up his life and needed a friend. On the cross, Jesus saw two criminals and He saw the Roman soldiers, people who mocked him and blasphemed God. Yet Jesus looked beyond their faults and saw their need; he died for them and he died for you and me, suffering our death penalty.
Jesus saw us... He knew us before we were born... and still He loved us and died for us. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 His love... made it possible for Him to look past our 'thorns' and see what our worth in Him could be! It is now time for us... to trust Him and use are gifts and talents for His Glory and Honor. We are not worthy in ourselves... we can do nothing in ourselves... but in Jesus... We Can Do ALL Things!
