My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. JAMES 1:2-4
No one can honestly say they enjoy trials, but James encourages us to look for the joy within our trials. You are not alone, everyone of us has seasons of distress. Still, we must seek the long-term silver lining in every storm we go through.
The phrase "fall into" implies we are being plunged into difficulties. These are situations that aren't a consequence of our own choices, they are simply things that are a part of life. There will be sudden and unexpected torment that invades our lives and tends to overwhelm us immediately; accidents, unexpected illnesses, losses, death and so on.
However, if you look, you will see that tribulations test our faith as well as increase it! Troubles also produce patience, which we need because we all have a tendency to race through these tough seasons. When we rush through our storms, we miss out on God's purpose: the patience, joy and perfecting work of God. Not that we achieve perfection before heaven, but we are made complete.
When suffering strikes, remember that our God is sovereign and that He can bring good out of everything. Do not try to run from pain or hide your problems. Instead, accept calamities, in Jesus Name, offering them up to Him for His purposes. Thus your suffering gains meaning and draws you closer to Him.
Lord for those of us who are in the midst of difficulties and afflictions, help us to remember that You are working all things for our good. Help us to see Your purpose in everything we must face today and give us peace until adversity passes. May patience, joy and the perfecting work of Your hands guide us to a closer relationship with You and may we find Your peace to guide us along the way.
JOY EMERGES FROM THE ASHES OF ADVERSITY THROUGH YOUR TRUST AND THANKFULNESS TO GOD!
