Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Psalm 33:12
THE NEED FOR
PRAYER AND REVIVAL
"The face of prayer has changed, but the need for prayer has not!"
It doesn't take a drawn-out, tedious look at our nation to know it has drifted away and rejected the Christianity of our forefathers. We can look in any direction and see that sin and moral decay are flourishing throughout our land.
ARE WE SPIRITUALLY HUNGRY
This is not the first time our nation has defied God or Godly principals. A year after the death of John Wesley, there was a "renewed spiritual hunger and revival" that began to take hold in Great Britain. John Erskine, a minister in Scotland, wrote "a little book on prayer" which stirred the hearts of people.
He sent a copy to Jonathan Edwards and a Baptist Pastor, Isacc Backus, both were instrumental in "arousing a national interest to pray." In 1794, the spiritual climate in America was at its worst when Backus called upon the ministers of every American church to unite in prayer for our nation.
A TIME OF RESTORATION
"As people sought God... signs of revival began to be seen."
While America looks hopeless, appears morally and spiritually bankrupt, "there is always HOPE!" We as God's people just need to come together and pray. God has restored and redeemed our nation before and He can do it again!!
Matthew Henry once wrote, "When God intends great mercy for His people, He first of all set them to praying!" We need not give up on our nation... we just need to embrace God's promise of prayer!
GOD'S HOLY WORD
God said, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land!"
