THE CRY OF THE WIDOW
While we do not know the exact nature of this widow's hardship or concern, we can recognize that it weighed heavily upon her heart. But, her pleas before the judge were clouded by the fact she was a woman and women were not allowed to speak in court.
Widows were part of a society that was persecuted and often taken advantage of. She had no money to help her "speed up the process before the judge." And, as a widow, she had no husband who could speak for her.
But, she was a determined widow -- and she managed to "continually come" before the judge. Each day when the judge would show up for court -- there she was. If the judge was in the marketplace -- there she was. Anywhere the judge went, she managed to show up to plead her case before him.
She was desperate for answers, despite her social and financial standings. Her only hope was to get help from this judge. So, she made sure she went before him, everyday, until she would receive the very answers to her problem.
WE ARE THE WIDOW
Yes, this widow represents us! When hard times, worries, fears and the cares of this world bring us down, we need to run to God in prayer. We need to continually come before Him and trust that He will answer our prayers!
There may be times when it seems God isn't listening, so we say, "whats the use?"... especially if we have prayed for a good while and no answer has come. I know this first hand because, I have been praying years, for some specific things in my life.
What I have learned from this widow, though, is to keep praying, keep knocking on heaven's door and keep persistent before God. No matter what hurdles we face, I believe that persistence in prayer pays off in God's timing!
So, if you are burdened, going through tough times, I would encourage you to keep praying, despite the obstacles you face and despite the feelings to just give up! Just remember, God hears you, God loves you and His timing is best for you!
Prayer is powerful and there is power in persistent prayer!
