When I was a little girl I remember picking daisies and plucking at the petals to determine what I really thought. He loves me.. he loves me not... he loves me.... he loves me not.. on and on I would go until the last petal was yanked from the flower. I was fickle and unpredictable. There were even times when I needed to pick quite a few daisies until the answer lined up with what I wanted to hear.
When our loyalties are divided between God and this world... we become very unstable and unreliable. The double minded man is undependable and it is hard for people to trust... that what they say... they will actually do.
You can not be sure of him in anything... for he has no spiritual discernment and no real convictions of anything.
These flighty souls are not sure of their very own salvation... one day they are very secure and the next day they do not know what they believe... or what God says about what they believe. They desire to serve the Lord, but the world is so captivating to them. They cannot resist the pleasures of this world, its honors or its riches. This is a sad life to try to live... it is not fulfilling and there is no real joy or peace... they neither enjoy the Lord or the world fully. Gods word tells us we can not serve two masters: No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other... Matthew 6:24
They have a powerless religion and an unknown God. There is no intimate and personal relationship with Jesus and they walk in the flesh... not in the spirit... they are the carnal Christian. We learn in Timothy that there never was a time when there was more religion and less reality than today... and that when we have only a form of godliness we have no real God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:5
It is a sad and feeble life and there is no substantial belief system... they tend to base their beliefs on who they are with at the moment. THIS IS NOT the way God intended for us to live... God tells us to study the Word of God and to know what and why we believe. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
I would encourage everyone to study and to learn. It is a daily process... and there is no end to what we can learn from Gods Word. We can have great assurance in Jesus and in what we believe... we do not have to be tossed where ever the wind blows! The Holy Spirit will equip us with truth and He will give us the power to believe and to know. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 1 Thessalonians 1:5
