Paul is writing about a peace in this passage, that transcends or goes above and beyond what we would expect or understand! He's telling us about a peace that is a bulwark, a fortress or a buttress that will protect our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus!
This is a peace that cannot be found in the world we live in. When a catastrophic illness or injury strikes -- when there is little money, but many bills -- when the pressure of work overwhelms you, when life just seems to press in on every side, this world cannot give you the peace you need!
When everything seems to be unraveling around you, God's peace is second to none! The peace from God, comes through Christ Jesus bringing with it... relaxation and comfort. The heart, mind and soul find a "tranquil state of being" that no one, not even satan can touch or steal away.
As the scripture states, don't fret or worry instead pray! Let your petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's goodness and peace will come and settle you down. It's a wonderful thing that happens when Christ Jesus dislodges worry at the very core of your being!
Learn to follow God's will and you will learn to walk also in His peace! This world does not have a pathway that leads to complete peace and rest for the body and soul. This void can only be given by God, through His Son, Jesus Christ.
In times of trouble and heartache, look to God, walk with Him and allow His peace to fill you! Learn to praise and worship Him, it will summon even more peace. Our God does not just give peace -- He is peace!
The measure of peace we find through Jesus, will keep our hearts and minds while we are here on earth. However, one day we will find a complete and total peace when we enter into His peace and His presence forevermore!
Look to God, when life overwhelms you. Trust Him! He will bring you the peace you so desire and long for! He will keep you in perfect peace, when your mind is stayed upon Him! (Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee. Isaiah 26:3 KJV) Keep your mind on JESUS!
Sometimes we just need to "be still" so we can focus on the Lord. Sit quietly and listen to the song, "Peace Be Still" sung by my husband for me. I pray it ministers and quiets your soul even now!
