JOHN 10:10
TWO WORRYING MEN
There were two funny men who had been friends all their lives. Both of them were very close pals, but very foolish in beliefs that had them gripped with worrying. They even worried over very minor issues.
One day they saw a billboard sign with the following words:
"If you can do something successfully, there is no reason to worry about doing it. If you cannot do something, worrying for it will not make it happen!"
WILLING TO PAY SOMEONE TO WORRY
The two men decided they should not worry anymore! Instead they decided to hire someone to "worry for them!"
They soon found a man who survived on temporary jobs. The man asked how much they would like to pay if he worried for them. The old men discussed and told him that they decided to pay him $20.00 dollars a week to worry for them.
HOW MUCH IS WORRYING REALLY WORTH
The young man said, "It won't work! If you pay me too little to worry about something for you, I will really be worrying how I'll survive on such a little pay?"
The old men discussed again and told they were now ready to pay the young man $150.00 a week! The surprised young man stated, "It still won't work! If you pay me a huge amount, while I am earning a good sum of money... Why then should I worry?"
Now... the two old men really had a problem... and they began to worry!!!
AN ALERT
Right before Jesus spoke to the disciples living life abundantly, He reminded them about the thief that comes in to steal, kill, and destroy. He didn't share that to burst their bubble or discourage them. He said it to alert them to a very real and present temptation.
Worry is one way the enemy robs us of enjoying the fruitful life Jesus spoke of. If Satan an get us to focus on the stresses around us, instead of focusing on the Holy Spirit within us, he has succeeded in stealing our abundant life in Christ.
WORRY DISTRACTS GOD'S TRUTH
The father of lies wants nothing more than to distract us from the Word of God. From the very beginning, when he challenged Eve with the question, "Did God really say that...?" Satan has been on a mission to divert our attention from the truth!
Often, when we are caught up in the cycle of worried thinking, we are to distracted to live a joy filled day! It is then time to open our Bibles. And, that's when we need God's truths the most.
WORRY IS A DISTRACTOR AND A FALSE COMFORTER
People who deal with persistent worry have become severely dependent on the anxious emotions they allow themselves to feel. Worry becomes a go-to source of comfort. Some of us even start to feel empty or lost if we aren't continually worried about something.
This may indicate it's time to seek some help. It might help to reach out to your pastor or someone you truly trust... so that they can give you a more objective viewpoint and an assurance that God has everything under His control!
SOME SUGGESTIONS TO COMBAT WORRYING
1. PRAY - Give your worries to the Lord our God
2. Print out some of your favorite "Key Bible Verses" to have on hand during time of worry.
3. Post them in prominent places throughout your home, where you can see and read them as often as you need to.
4. Pray and ask God to plant those verses deep into your heart so you will begin to "Act on Them" if you begin to worry.
5. Remember: The enemy doesn't stand a chance in the "Light of God's Truth!"
6. PRAY! AND THEN PRAY FOR OTHERS!
PRAING FOR OTHERS HELPS YOU AND THEM!
