SHE NEEDED JESUS' TOUCH
And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any... Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, "Who touched me?" When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, "Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?"
LUKE 8:43-45
THE CROWDS GATHERED
I can imagine the crowd around Jesus and you will find; And, behold, there came a man Jarius, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come to his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
LUKE 8:40-42
Can you picture this scene in your mind? Here was a leader in the Jewish synagogue running to Jesus, and falling to the ground begging for Jesus's help for his only young daughter who was dying. Scripture says that as he went towards Jesus the people thronged him, meaning the scene was jam-packed with people.
WHAT WAS IT THAT MADE THE PEOPLE GATHER
Some probably wanted to see a miracle, others might have needed a miracle themselves... so how did this one, weakened woman get through the crowd? She must have been on her knees or crawling on her stomach because we are told she touched the border or the "Hem of His Garment!"
THING ABOUT THIS WOMAN WHO NEEDED JESUS
I can imagine her hands, legs and maybe even her body being stepped upon by the crowd around her who were also trying to see Jesus do a miracle. Yet, somehow, some way this woman pressed on, I believe it was her FAITH that kept her moving through this crowd, just to touch his garment... that was all she needed and that was probably what she was thinking.
WHAT ARE WE WILLING TO DO TO REACH JESUS
Oh, that we would press on with such force to see, to know, to take hold of our Savior's garment... or His hand. Oh, that we would seek him in diligently in our prayers and read His Word eagerly and consistently to just KNOW OUR LORD!
The Lord draws near to us... when we seek Him. The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. PSALMS 34:15
Are we willing to push through the things of this world that would keep us from getting to JESUS?? Or are we more like the woman, who would crawl, get stepped upon to just touch the "Hem of His Garment" knowing that's all we need to reach our Savior??
JUST ONE TOUCH IN THE CROWD
"Who touched Me?" asked the Master
As He walked among the crowd.
Then He turned and saw a woman...
kneeling in the dust, head bowed.
His disciples were astonished
How could Jesus recognize
One brief touch from this small woman
with the frightened, pleading eyes?
With great patience, He stood listening
As she told of her disease;
Then He gently smiled and said,
"My child, you're healed... now go in peace."
What a beautiful reminder
that our Savior is aware;
When a needy soul comes seeking
for His endless love and care.
Though the multitude may press Him,
We are blessed that God's own Son
Cares for every child as tenderly
As if there was but ONE!
