Psalm 71:19-21
Bill hired John, a carpenter to help him restore an old farmhouse. They had just finished a rough first day on the job and both were eager to get home.
John had a flat tire on his first day and made him lose an hour of work. Then his electric saw quit and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start.
John seemed a bit down and sat in silence as Bill drove him home that first night. However, when they arrived at John's home, he invited Bill to come in and meet his family.
As they walked towards the front door, John paused for a moment at a small tree. After touching the tiny branches with both hands, he proceeded up the pathway. He opened the front door and Bill noticed an amazing transformation, in John. His face lit up as he smiled and kissed his wife and hugged his two children.
John introduced his family and then walked Bill to his car. As they passed by the little tree, Bill's curiosity got the better of him. He just had to ask John, about what he had saw him do earlier, by the tree.
John smiled and said, "Oh, that's my trouble tree. I know I can't keep from having trouble on the job, but one thing for sure, I know the Lord doesn't want me to bring my troubles home. They don't belong in the house with my wife and kids. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and then I ask God to help me forget them. In the morning, I pick them up again."
He went on to say, "Funny thing is, when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren't nearly as many as I remembered hanging up the night before!"
We are all subject to problems and stress throughout our days. What we do with those worries and difficulties depends on our relationship with the Lord. We worship and serve a personal God who knows our troubles and cares deeply about us.
We must learn how to reach out and talk to God, when we do we will find solace there in His presence. There is power in our prayers and in the Word of God. I believe the Holy Spirit gave us specific scriptures for the purpose of bringing help in our times of need.
When God says something, He means it. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, be it our doubts, worries or anxieties. Be assured that if we will apply His Word to our situations, we will find the resolution and even find that things weren't as bad as we first thought!
Paul said, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6&7
We can know that everything we are going through is known by our Lord and God. We need not worry or fret, we need just pray and seek God. Allow your petitions and praises to shape your anxieties into prayers, knowing God hears your concerns. We may not understand 'why,' but God will never fail us.
Peter said, Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 4:12&13
We can know the painful trials that we suffer are nothing new, many have suffered the same. Peter was glad to be able to share in the sufferings that Christ experienced. He prayed for God's glory to be revealed in him. We can choose to be depressed or rejoice knowing that we are experiencing a spiritual refining process, that will benefit us with God's victory and glory waiting just around the corner.
Isaiah said, He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31
We can know that God is always with us. He knows everything and He is able to energize us when we get tired and He gives us strength when we fall. We need to stand upon God's Word and wait. He will renew our strength and we will go forth and not grow weary. We can walk and not lag behind as we rely on God!!
Isaiah went on to say, For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Isaiah 41:13
We can know that God has a hold of us and He will not let go. There is no need for us to panic for He is there to help us. When we are weak, He will strengthen us. When we are about to fall, He will uphold us with His right hand. I know that God will help us when we call upon Him. In our distress, He brings laughter and joy!
Maybe you, like John, can put your troubles down and go about your daily life, without dwelling constantly on them. Do you see how this is so much sweeter than wallowing in fear, doubt and depression??
Whatever you are going through at this moment... bring it to God in prayer. Lift your faith rise to a new level of grace by trusting Him for the answers!
