HEBREWS 11:1
WHAT GOD WORD SAYS ABOUT FAITH
So, what specifically is faith according to God's Word?
It is the confident and bold assurance that something we have need for or that which we have a desire or longing for is developing and going to happen. It is the positive promise that what we hope for is right around the corner waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.
In HEBREWS 11 we read about the men and women of God in days of old... who were notable to many, for their faith. And by trust, assurance, and our belief in God -- we know that the world, the moon, the stars, the sun, in fact ALL things were created by God's command and power; and they were all made by acts that can't be seen.
As a result of our faith we believe and understand that the worlds were formed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen... were not made of things which just appear.
WHO WERE THESE MEN AND WOMEN OF FAITH
1. SARAH - Then the Lord said, "Next year I will give you
and Sarah a son!" (Sarah was listening from the tent door
behind him) Now Abraham and Sarah were both very old,
and Sarah was long since past the time when she could have
a baby.
So Sarah laughed silently. "A woman my age have
a baby?" she scoffed to herself. "And with a husband as
old as mine?" Then God said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah
laugh? Why did she say "Can an old woman like me have a baby?"
Is there anything too hard for God? Next year, just
as I told you, I will certainly see to it that Sarah has a son!"
But, Sarah denied it. "I didn't laugh," she lied, for she was
afraid. ( See Genesis 18:10-15)
GOD SPEAKS TO ABRAHAM -- AS SARAI SECRETLY LISTENS
So the Lord spoke to Abraham and said, "Next year I will give you and Sarai a son!" Now, Sarai was listening to their conversation from behind the tent entrance and thought about her husband Abraham's and her age, as they were very old, and Sarai was long since past the time when she could have a baby.
SARAI SCOFFS AT GOD'S WORD
Silently Sarai mocked what was spoken and laughed. "A woman of my age have a child, she said to herself. "And with a husband as old as mine?" God heard and said to Abraham, "Why did Sarai laugh? Why did she say, "Can an old woman like me have a baby? Yet, is anything too hard for God?
Sarai denied denied it. "I didn't laugh," she was lying, because she was now afraid! Still God spoke, "Next year, just as I have told you, I will certainly see to it that Sarah has a son."
Then God added, "Regarding Sarai your wife -- her name is no longer 'Sarai' but 'Sarah,' meaning 'Princess'. And I will bless her and give you a son from her! Yes! I will bless her richly, and make her the mother of nations!
GREAT FAITH OVER THE NEXT YEAR
Through faith Sarah herself received the strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past the age of child bearing, because she judged him faithful who had promised. Sarah was now the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac.
WHAT ARE YOU IN NEED OF OR DESIRE TO HAVE
By no means is GOD - Santa Claus or someone we go to just for things -- especially "material things!" Still, when we have a need we can count on our God to be Jehovah Jireh -- meaning: "The Lord Will Provide!"
