I receive prayer requests from several prayer teams and here on my blog. Many of them remind me of how blessed I truly am, and while all of them touch my heart to pray, there are some that break my heart. Not too long ago, I received such a prayer request.
A mother wrote to ask for prayer for her only daughter. She was only 16 years old, but was having great pain in her legs. It turned out the young girl had bone cancer and subsequently this mom learned the cancer had spread throughout her body.
The doctors would start her daughter on aggressive chemo-therapy but could not offer much hope. Their prognosis for survival was less than one year. While many of us prayed, sadly, the young girl passed away six months later.
As a mother myself, my heart broke for the entire family. Once again, I found myself asking these questions, "Why... why do some people go through so much pain and suffering? and How can I be of some help or comfort to them? -- How can I touch the deep void in their hearts, relieve their fears or doubts? What words would reach them at this dark time in their lives?"
I am not a theologian, but this I do know from my own experience; God is our help -- He is a "safe-house" for the sick, the battered and the hurting! God is a refuge and a haven where the weary can rest and find peace. God is our fortress, a stronghold for the persecuted, the helpless and the abused.
He has promised that while we may go through pain, suffering and trials here on this earth, we can be assured that He will never leave us. He will be there to walk right beside us or He will carry us when we can no longer walk. ...for He hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5
Will you take the hand of Jesus today and trust Him to walk with you in times of trouble and distress? He is a true refuge for the oppressed and He is waiting for you even now!!
