I became a realtor after my husband and I purchased a home and subsequently learned that the back portion of the home's sill was completely eaten away by termites. The sill serves as a foundation of a wall or house. Now, before you shout, "Why didn't you have a home and termite inspection?" I need to tell you we ABSOLUTELY did have both inspections. At the time my husband had a back problem and was unable to shadow the inspectors. Even so the inspectors had done a great job, and now to make a long story short... we learned it was the sellers realtor that forged the termite inspection report simply because the termite inspector could not have the paper work ready by our closing date. We then had to sue the realtor for the repairs that were way over our heads to finance, because without a good foundation the house would eventually cave in.
A solid foundation is essential for any building... if it is to withstand the storms of life. So it is when we face the various kinds of storms in our own lives... such as marital or family problems, financial strains, illness, death...etc. These crises will test our beliefs and our faith... without a good belief system and a strong faith in Jesus many Christians will find themselves with the same answers that the world offers them. The storms in our lives indicate the credibility and stability of our very own foundations of faith and beliefs.
So... how do you withstand the storms of life?? Where do you go when the storms are fierce and turbulent? Do you have a rock that is higher than yourself? Davids cry to the Lord demonstrates the confidence of his faith:
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2
I can say that... while we would all like to evade the storms of life, (I know I certainly would)... they are bound to come. But I am confident that my Lord Jesus is my rock and he will preserve my soul! Throughout the storms I know that I know... Jesus will be my joy and my peace.
