Mark 4:35
Jesus Calms the Storm
It had been a long, hot day by the "Sea of Galilee" where Jesus was teaching the multitudes that had gathered. The evening hour was falling upon all those there, so Jesus sent the crowd away.
As the crowds left, Jesus told the disciples to get into the boat, so they could cross over to the other side of the lake. The disciples got into the boat, and the men began to row the eight-mile journey across the lake.
The Storm
It wasn't very long before a fierce storm, with great winds and waves, were beating into the ship. Jesus had fallen asleep at the back of the ship, and the disciples filled with fear went to wake him, afraid they would all perish.
Jesus woke up and rebuked the wind, then he said to the sea, "Peace, be still". The raging storm obeyed his command immediately!
Fearful and Faithless
The disciples had seen Jesus do many miracles, and still, their lack of total trust and belief in him was quashed by the violent storm. Jesus asked them "Why are you so fearful and how is it you have no faith?"
We may not have been in the disciple's situation, however, we all have had or eventually will experience some type of turbulent storm in our own lives.
What Kind Of Man Is This
The disciples were still amazed and astonished at their new Lord and Savior, the Messiah. When we stop and think about it, how many of us would ask the same question the disciples asked; "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and sea obey him?"
I can appreciate where they are coming from, for I have seen The Lord answer many prayers, and still, I wonder what will happen when I find myself in new storm of life! When my faith is constantly challenged, I must learn to trust God's Holy Word even more.
Why We Can Trust God's Word
We can trust that The Lord will not only take us through the storms, but he will also be with us in those storms. Jesus stated in the verse above;
"Let us pass over unto the other side."
He said "us" meaning he would be with them and he said, "pass over to the other side," which meant they would reach their destination on the other side of the lake, storm or no storm!
The Word of God and His Great Love assures us, that we who have received him as Lord and Savior, can trust and rely on him always! If YOU don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, please feel free to use the "Contact Me" form above.
