I just love it when an old friend will send a letter of "family updates" instead of just the usual Christmas card. I enjoy hearing how their families are growing and what has happened to them in the year prior. It lends value to our friendship and helps both sides to stay just a little bit closer.
I am equally sure that the Lord loves to hear from us, even though He knows what is going on in our lives. Our prayers are significant to Jesus and He loves for us to talk with Him, just as we would our closest friend. It is also such a comforting thought to know He is always available to listen and be there when we need Him or when we just want to spend time with Him.
The Word of God States: Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. Jeremiah 29:12 So we can be certain that when we call upon Him, He does hear us. He listens to our burdens and our triumphs with love, care and close attention.
When we come to the Lord, he is able to bring hope to our hearts, peace to our soul and strength to our life. Even when our difficulties and hardships leave us without words, we know that the Holy Spirit Himself can and will speak on our behalf; Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26
God also wants to hear about our every day interests, from our smallest victories to our most extensive fears, and everything in between. He is always there, waiting for us to come to Him, be it day or night He is available! You can tell Him about the anger you feel, the pain you are bearing and the hurts that have pierced your heart.
Let Him know how much you love and need Him. Sing praises and lift up His name with thanksgiving. Our prayers move God and when He moves in our lives we will know His presence, sense His peace and draw strength that we never thought possible!
We use to sing this old hymn when I was a little girl and the words still bring comfort and hope today:
How long has it been since you talked with the Lord
And told him your heart's hidden secrets?
How long since you prayed?
How long since you stayed on your knees till the light shone through?
How long has it been since your mind felt at ease?
How long since your heart knew no burden?
Can you call him your friend?
How long has it been since you knew that he cared for you?
How long has it been since you knelt by your bed,
And prayed to the Lord up in heaven?
How long since you knew that he'd answer you
And would keep you the long night through?
How long has it been since you woke with the dawn
And felt this day is worth living?
Can you call him your friend?
How long has it been since you knew that he cared for you
