Jerry held many real estate properties and was a landlord. On the other hand his neighbor Jack, was a very poor farmer.
Although Jack didn't have very much, he did have peace of mind. He was always very happy and relaxed. Jack never bothered to close doors or windows to his house, At night he was able to sleep soundly, just like a baby.
Jerry however, was always tense. He always made a point, to close and lock all the doors and windows of his home, especially at night. Jerry was never able to sleep the whole night through, he would either toss and turn, or just get up and pace the floors of his home. He was always thinking that someone might break into his home and steal away his money. He greatly envied the peace of his friend and neighbor Jack.
One day, when Jerry could take it no longer, he called Jack over and gave him, his riches.
He stated, "Jack, my dear friend, I have been blessed with plenty of wealth. I have also seen you in your poverty, so I want you to take this box of cash and live in prosperity!"
Jack was overwhelmingly happy and excited about his new status in life. All day he thought about the many things he could now do, with his new found wealth. As day drew to a close, Jack went to bed as usual. However, he found that he could not sleep. He began checking on his box full of cash. The whole night he was disturbed.
As soon as daylight came, Jack took the box of cash and went to Jerry's home stating, "Dear friend, I am grateful for your kindness, but your money took away my peace. I hope you can understand and take your money back!"
We can see here that wealth did not bring peace of mind, in fact it did just the opposite. Real peace can only be found a the foot of the cross. Once we have accepted Jesus into our lives the next step is to learn to walk in the peace that only He can give us.
The Lord wants peace to be the framework of our lives and He wants it to envelop every facet of our lives. He wants us to learn to trust His heart... even when we cannot trace His steps. True peace is that calm assurance, coupled with a quiet joy that God has our lives under control and that He is working to accomplish His purpose in us.
God knows our doubts, worries and fears. He understands our broken dreams and disappointments. However, He can give us peace in the midst of these adversities and He longs to do just that. Nothing and no one can ever give you, the kind of peace that Jesus gives. Keep trusting and keep building your faith in Him, by reading His word and praying!
