and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with
all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou may live.
DEUTERONOMY 30:6
A LIFE GIVING GIFT
Dan Olson is a marathon runner and a long-distance
cyclist. He's also a HEART TRANSPLANT recipient. Dan
thought his athletic lifestyle would ensure having a healthy
body. But at age 38, he was diagnosed with
cardiomyopathy--the weakening and thickening
of the heart muscle.
Damaged beyond repair, Dan needed a heart transplant. His
donor was a 15-year-old car accident victim. Making the
decision to generously donate their daughter's organs in
the midst of their tragedy, the teenager's parents gave Dan
a new life. "I think of my donor every day," says Dan.
"And I want to show her family all that their gift has
allowed me to do!"
IN NEED OF A LIVING HEART
Damaged beyond repair, Dan needed a heart transplant
if he was going to live. Before we become believers in
Christ Jesus we are much like Dan. We have "spiritual
cardiomyopathy"--the hardening of heart.
The Great Physician calls our condition "a heart of stone!"
According to His prognosis, our stony heart is unable and
unwilling to respond to God. Untreated, we are like the
dead, devoid of any real life.
A NEW HEART
We are also heart transplant recipients when we give
our hearts over to the Lord our God. He gently proceeds
with the intense procedure as our divine Surgeon. He not
only is our Surgeon--He is our donor, who gave His own
life that we might live.
He has told us, "I will give you a new heart... I will take
out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a new and a
tender, responsive heart. I will also put My Spirit in you so
that you will be able to follow My decrees and be careful to
obey My orders, just as Dan listened and obeyed his
surgeons orders to "live a full life, with his new heart!"
DO YOU NEED A HEART TRANSPLANT
Until we accept a new "heart transplant" from the creator
of life--we will never know the genuine joy of living! We
will never fully know God's plan and purpose for our
living here on earth.
And,without a new heart from Jesus, we can not be
a true Believer in Christ Jesus! But, when we give our
God permission to transform our hearts, we become His
children and He becomes our Father!
