In 1876 Thomas Edison set a goal to have one major invention every 6 months and one minor invention every 10 days. And, he came very close to achieving those goals.
Menlo Park Laboratory, is the home of the first electric light bulb, the first phonograph and many other inventions. He believed the best creations came from people working together.
- "I have not failed. I have found 10,000 ways that didn't work."
- "I will not say, I failed 1000 times. I will say that I discovered there are 1000 ways that can cause failure!"
- "Many of life's failures are from men who did not realize, how close they were to success, when they gave up!"
Edison's assistant once said, "We have failed to do anything of value, in creating the light bulb filament." Edison quickly replied, "We have not failed, we have discovered 1000 ways a filament will not work."
When Edison was asked if he was a failure and if he should just give up, he said, "I now know definitely over 9,000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work. Success is almost in my grasp."
find a filament for the light bulb, he succeeded.
After 10,000 attempts, Edison did indeed invent the first electric light bulb. His thoughts and ways are a perfect example of why, "Failure is never an option!"
Although, Edison did not give up, I am sure he must have faced days of frustration and discouragement. However, he always pursued his dreams and aspirations.
God's Word is very clear: Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9
The covenant given to the people of Israel, did not die when Moses did. God's promise to give his people every square inch of land in Cannaan was still valid.
God didn't want Joshua or the Israelites to be so downcast and disheartened by Moses death that they would give up. Not at all!!
He spoke directly to Joshua... NO, "God commanded" him to get up and move in strength and courage! God told them not to be afraid or dismayed, because He was going to guide and accompany them into the land that was promised to their ancestors!
And, God wanted them, to give it everything they had. He warned them about getting off track, whether to the left or to the right... God wanted them to succeed!
So Joshua gave the orders to the people's leaders: "Pack up and gather your belongings, because in three days we will cross the Jordan River. We are going to enter and take the land God has promised so very long ago!
My friend, don't stay down-hearted and discouraged. It's time to get up and gather your thoughts... because your miracle may be just around the corner!!
And... just a reminder... we have the Holy Spirit to help us! Call upon the Lord, ask the Holy Spirit to guide and help you out of any despair or discouragement you may have.
