Hebrews 12:1,2
I ran the relay race in fifth grade and there is one little detail I will not forget! It was put into my brain by a brawny, determined... and able bodied gym teacher. She branded the fact, into our brains... that we should never... ever... no matter what was happening... look back while we were running the race. To look back could cause seconds to be lost... seconds that we could never make up... and seconds that could cost us the race.
As I recall her advice now... I find it to be sound! As I incorporate it into my walk with the Lord... it is comforting and encouraging... to know what the truth of the matter is... "I am not where I want to be in my walk with the Lord, Yet, I am not where I was!" I am moving forward. Every Christian who is running his or her race with patience... in an earnest effort to finish a race that will bring the 'Glory to God' must stay focused on what is ahead of them... not on what lies behind them! That is exactly why a windshield is larger than a rear view mirror... it is more important to look ahead... then to dwell on what is behind you!
Satan will do anything to deceive us... he will try to convince us that we are not doing our best... so we should just give up! He will try to discourage us by telling us we are so far behind other Christians... that we could never catch up or be as good as they are. Satan loves excuses and he will give us as many as we will accept! We must remember that we are not racing against other Christians... we are racing with other Christians and our only goal is to 'please Jesus,' for He alone is the author and finisher of our faith!
Do not get caught up in... "what might have been"... or "if I had only done this!" Do not look at others and "wish you were as smart as them" or "wonder why God didn't give you a gift as noticeable as theirs!" You are unique to God... He made a plan and purpose for your life and your life alone!! He doesn't want you to be like... "Brother Gives Alot" or "Sister Do Good!" He wants you to be what He has decreed for your life... there is no one else who can be you!
So... keep moving... keep going forward... keep believing... keep the faith... keep trusting and keep praying! You are the only one who can run your race. In your race there will be opportunities that only you... will know how to govern. There will be people who... only you can comfort and show the joy and peace of God! Still... there will also be others that only you can reach for Jesus... what could be more meaningful??
As you get closer to the finish line... and see the joy that is awaiting you... nothing else will really matter. Your last and final steps will be everything... if not more... than you could have ever imagined... Jesus will be there to greet you and award you a prize for which there are no words!
