THE GEESE: During the Autumn months you will see geese heading south for winter, flying in a "V" formation. Science has discovered why they fly that way; each bird flaps its wings, creating an uplift for the bird directly behind them. By flying in this "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
WE LEARN: By working together we help each other and are more effective in what we are doing. Our reward then is in our laboring together!
SCRIPTURE: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
Ecclesiastes 4:9
THE GEESE: When the head goose gets tired, it will rotate back in the wing and another goose will fly point position.
WE LEARN: Our struggles, our trials and our burdens teach us how to live in Christ. We are then able to share and encourage those who are weary, tired and growing faint. By serving others we portray what Jesus has done for us!
SCRIPTURE: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Proverbs 27:17
THE GEESE: Should a goose fall out of formation, it will quickly feel the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone. Swiftly it gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power from the bird in front of him.
WE LEARN: If someone falls into sin, our duty is to forgive and restore him/her. We are not to gossip and we should save our comments for ourselves. You or I might need forgiveness before the today ends. When we reach out to those who are oppressed and share their burdens we complete the law of Christ. Don't deceive yourself in thinking you are better or too good for that.
SCRIPTURE: Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
THE GEESE: Lastly, and most importantly, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshot, and falls out of formation, two other geese will fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies; and only then will they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their own flock.
WE LEARN: We who are strong ought to help the weak carry their burdens. We need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter. Our strength is for our service, not status. We must look to those around us and ask, "How can I help?"
SCRIPTURE: We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
