Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
1 CORINTHIANS 10:12
THE FROG IN HOT WATER
They say if you hurl a frog into boiling water, it will rapidly, urgently jump out. But, if you place the frog into cool water and slowly heat it to the boiling point, the frog won't notice and will slowly cook to death.
Or so claims the myth.
Nonetheless, most people will understand that the "frog fable" is proof that people often don't see change happening and
cannot deal with it in the aftermath. So the real-life
experiments show that the frog-in-boiling water story
is wrong. If only this fact could make it into real life
also!
STAY OUT OF HOT WATER
We are warned in (1 CORINTHIANS 10:12) that in this modern
day time... and while there is still time, we must make
ourselves ready before the Lord our God. And be
thankful that He has not come down upon us like
"a deer caught in the headlights"
of a speeding car!
We must check and ask ourselves, "Is everything fine with our
character and attitude? Are we following Christ Jesus with
our whole heart and asking Him to teach us His ways??
PRESUMPTIONS
Paul includes this verse in a context that lists a few of
Israel's foolhardy sins. Did they possibly think that they
were in good standing with God-when in reality they were
not?
Were they presuming something that was a lie? The answer
is most likely, yes! They showed a careless presumption by their lack of concern about works-by their belief that God
is so merciful, that He will accept any old attitude and
behavior and just over look them!
A WARNING TO ALL
Their groaning and whining? Some of them complained,
and the messenger of death came for them and destroyed
them. All these things happened for a very specific reason:
to sound a warning.
They were written down and passed down to us to teach us!
They were meant especially for us because the beginning of the
end is happening in our time. So let even the most confident
believers remember their examples and be very careful not
to fall as some of them did.
TRUTH BE TOLD
One of the strengths of the Jewish people is their corporate
identity that comes from belonging to a unique, suffering people... deeply loved by God. The tendency for the new,
gentile believers may be to create a new identity among
themselves because they lack the sense of belonging
shared by Israel's descendants.
A new day is dawning, a day when all may come to God regardless of ethnicity, locality, or social class. Believers in
Corinth are not part of a new movement; they are a fresh expression of the historic movement of God.
WHAT WE NEED TO HEAR
The twenty-first century church needs to hear this truth today
as much as the church in Corinth did two millennia ago. The
world has changed drastically since the times of Abraham,
David, John the Baptist, and even Martin Luther.
In the midst of "Radical Extreme Leftist, Economic and Technological Advances," some within the church are embracing new or contemporary practices and regarding
them as somehow superior to ancient and historic practices.
Paul is challenging this idea and calling all believers to see themselves as a part of the local, global, and historic church.
OUR GOD IS HONORABLE
Any temptation you or I may face will be nothing new. But our God is faithful, and He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle. He always provides a way of escape so that
we will be able to endure and keep moving forward.
So then, my friends run from evil, sin and idolatry in any form.
As wise as I know you are, understand this very clearly, what I am saying and determine the right course of action in everything that you do and say!
