We all have a work and a ministry to do for the Lord. But, there always will be times when our adversary Satan... will attack us in order to stop the work of God. He will do anything to hinder our labors, many times he will put enemies together just to frustrate us and impede God's work from moving forward.
Of this you can be sure: If you are on a divine mission... if you are called to do a work for the Lord and you are busy fulfilling that calling, trusting in Jesus to help you... none of Satan's plots will work against you... unless you allow them to.
Nehemiah was called by God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. God prepared the way for him and even opened the doors for Nehemiah... as he was given permission to do just that by Artaxerxes the King. (Nehemiah 2) The work was progressing wonderfully, with the walls going up steadily. Suddenly Satan stirred up a hornets' nest to hinder it all. Four prominent leaders joined in a plot against Nehemiah: “They thought to do me mischief”.(Nehemiah 6:2)
Not once... not twice... but four times these leaders tried to trap Nehemiah...when they called out, "Nehemiah, Come down off your wall. We want to have a conference with you." They were insistent that Nehemiah, stop what he was doing and come down off the wall and talk to them. Nonetheless, Nehemiah answered, "I'm not coming down off these walls! I have work to do here because God has ordained me to do it!" (Nehemiah 6:3)
Friends, we can never get involved in arguing with people just because they want to argue with us. It's all meant to confuse us and distract us from our mission. It is at these very times we must go on with God's work.
Satan's quest... his mission is to come against our prayer life... to attack our ministries... to dismiss our dedication to God and our walk with Him. He seeks only to bring us down and he wants to ruin the ministries that God has blessed us with. Satan's desire is to destroy anything and everything that we are doing... and he seeks to stop... that which would bring the Glory to God!
These leaders also started a rash of rumors against Nehemiah. They claimed, "You're doing this for yourself, not for God!" One of them, Tobiah, sent slanderous letters to other leaders in Israel. All the slander, plotting and snares were designed to put fear and doubt into Nehemiah's heart, in hopes that he would get discouraged, run and stop the works of God that he was doing.
Nehemiah sums up the scheme in: (Nehemiah 6:13) “He was hired that I should be afraid . . . that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.” But none of those snares could stop the work of God! Scripture states: "So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God." (Nehemiah 6:15-16)
Whether you are in a formal ministry... or you put God into your business days... if you volunteer to help out in a church project.... sing on Sunday morning... whatever it is that you do... do it to bring glory and honor to our Lord! Also, do it with your whole heart... you've might have heard the saying, "Live out loud!" I think we should make sure that anything we do for God is done to the very best of our abilities... and we give Him 100% at all times!
Don't get caught up in what people say... don't let Satan sneak into your heart and try to stop you from being all that you can be for Jesus! Just stop and say, "I am doing this for my Lord and Savior... and I can't stop till I've completed the task!" Then with joy... complete the work that God has given you to do!
