Is the company we keep... good for us or do they keep us from growing in the Lord? We must surround ourselves with Christians who are uplifting and encouraging us... to move forward. When my sons played basketball in high school... you would often hear the term: "trash talk." It all took place on the courts during the game... the team members would mock and try to intimidate their opponent's confidence... with just the words that they spoke... in order to win the game. I wonder how many games were lost... just because of the words that someone spoke while they were playing.
Words are such powerful tools in our lives... not only the words we speak... but the words we listen to! Take a lesson from this "little frog!"
There were a number of frogs who were migrating through the woods... when two of them suddenly fell into a deep pit. The other frogs gathered quickly around the large hole and saw their two friends jumping madly in the massive cavity... they soon realized that it was probably to deep for them... to ever jump out of. They began to yell down to those friends who were trapped, "This hole is too deep.. you will never be able to jump high enough to get out! You might as well give up and die right now!"
The two frogs ignored the comments and kept trying to jump out of the pit. The frogs at the top kept yelling to them... "the hole is much to deep for you to jump out... there is nothing more you can do... just give up and die! After quite a bit of jumping... one of the frogs looked up... seeing he was no closer to the top... he gave up and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again the crowd of frogs at the top... kept yelling for him to stop the pain and suffering... just give up and die! For some unseen reason the little frog began to jump with even more fervency and soon found himself out and at the top of the pit! All the other frogs were shocked... they asked, "Why didn't you stop? Why did you continue jumping? Didn't you hear us telling you to stop suffering and quit.
The little frog answered them, "I do not hear well, I am almost deaf... I thought you were "ENCOURAGING" me the whole time!
So you see my friends... it is not only the words that you speak that are poisonous... it is the words you are listening to! I would urge you to surround yourself with Godly friends, music and anything else that would build you up and not tear you down. Learn the joy of not only speaking... but that of hearing positive thoughts!
