This is a short story about a little wave, bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He relishes the fresh air, savors the warmth of the sun and enjoys every moment he floats along.
That is... until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shoreline. "My God, this is terrible" the little wave says, "look what is going to happen to me!"
All at once, another wave comes along and says to him; "Little wave, why do you look so sad?" He replies, "You don't understand! We're all going to crash! All of us waves are going to be nothing at all. I don't know how I can go on! Isn't this terrible? "
The second wave says; "No, little wave, you don't understand. You're not just a wave... not at all. You are part of the ocean!"
I think we all have felt like that little wave at some point in our lives. We drift through life thinking it will go on forever... only to find out how quickly it passes us by. It is at that point that a word of encouragement can change our complete outlook on life.
I believe that God puts us with certain people, at certain times for a specific and particular purpose. When we come across someone who is facing hardship and suffering, we can know that God has placed us there for a reason!
We are to be a comfort and solace to those around us! When you see a friend who is discouraged or despondent, how do you react or do you even respond? As Christians our words and actions can be what keeps a person going and our reassurance can bring hopefulness and promise into the light of day once more.
It is so important to let our lives reflect the love of Jesus Christ. We need to let others know how much we love them, how we value them and just how important they are to the body of Christ.
Always remember that we have the power to bring life-giving affirmation to those around us! As Christians, we carry hope, healing, faith and a new look outlook on life! Christ desires that we freely pour it out to those we encounter, wherever life may bring us.
It is so easy to find fault and see what people around us are doing wrong. We must learn to focus on the good for there will always be someone to criticize and judge. Why not make it your choice today to speak victory and faith into someone's life?
Think about it this way; What changes come into your heart when someone is compassionate and responsive to your needs? How do you respond when someone is tender-hearted and gracious to you? It may just be a word, but I know it can make our day seem so much brighter!!
God's Word tells us that we are the "light of Jesus" in this world. Let us be that person who breathes new life into those around us. Let us bring joy and faith to everyone we encounter... if just for today let us be a "wave of hope!"
Proverbs 12:25 Says it best! Worries may bring us down, but a cheerful word brings can bring us new life!
