Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Proverbs 16:24
BAD NEWS TRAVELS QUICKLY
HEARTLESS & UNCARING
Extra... Extra, Read all about it! Bad news, gossip, rumors, and unfeeling words tend to flow easily and spread quickly, like wildfires. This need not be if we all kept watch over what we say.
HURT BY WORDS
A grandmother and her lovely little granddaughter set out to spend the day at the zoo. They soon saw a line of children waiting to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who was decorating them with tiger paws.
One little boy noticed the woman and her granddaughter and said to the little girl, "You've got so many freckles, there's no place to paint!!" Embarrassed, the little girl dropped her head and began to cry. Her grandmother knelt next to her and said, "I love your freckles!" "Not me," the little girl replied.
Her grandmother continued, "Well when I was a little girl I always wanted freckles" as she traced her finger across the child's cheek. "Well, don't you know that freckles are beautiful!" The little girl looked up, "Really?" "Of course," said her grandmother, "Why just name me one thing that's prettier than freckles!?"
SOOTHING WORDS
The little girl peered into her grandmother's smiling face. "WRINKLES" she softly answered.
We are living in a time where hostilities, anger, and rage is rampant. People are very quick to speak and sadly, so often their words are "cruel and destructive." So it is necessary for us as Christians to not only be aware of what we speak but to have our lives so immersed in Jesus that we always reflect His love and compassion in our speech.
TENDERNESS
Kindness and compassion towards one another can not just be an occasional word or deed. No, it must become a way of living for each of us, as we devote our lives to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to dwell within us.
The words we speak are powerful, God's Word says, they can kill or give life. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21 Our words are either '"poisonous or fruitful" to those we encounter... so it is up to each of us to choose our words and how we use them.
KINDNESS OR HARSHNESS
What have you spoken today... words that are life-giving or words that will destroy?
