This world is often an expressway... for the hustle and bustle of people rushing about... with numerous activities and the most deafening sounds our ears can tolerate. How often do we long for just peace and quiet?
There is a place where we can go amidst all the hubbub and pandemonium... a secret place of our God Almighty. It is a place for us to dwell and rest... a place to make our very own home... and you might be very surprised at its location. The King in the story below was very wise and he knew where to find such peace.
This king had offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried... and the king took great care and time to look at all the pictures. But there were only two that stood out... two that he really liked, and he had to choose between them.
However, the king had looked very closely, as he studied the painting... he tried to picture in his mind where he would go in this scene... that would bring peace. Then he saw it... just behind the waterfall... there was a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush he saw where a mother bird had built her nest. There... she sat in the midst of the rush of the angry waters... Her wings spread just so... that her little ones were covered from the storm... they were warm and safe. There the mother bird sat on her nest in perfect peace.
Which picture do you think won the prize? Well... the king chose the second picture. Do you know why? "Because," explained the king, "peace does not mean you are in a place where there is no brisk pace or noise, no trouble, or hard work. That is not real peace!"
The King went on, "Peace means you can be in the midst of all those things and still have calm and tranquil in your heart, that comes from God Almighty." The King had found a place of sweet rest... It came from within his own heart and life.
We to can find such peace if we find our dwelling place in Jesus. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 91:1-2
Have you found that pure and precious slumber... are you residing in that secret place where only God and you occupy under the shadow of His wings? You must seek Him... to know Him... to abide in Him... and when you do... you will have found that secret location... where all is quiet and still.
