It was a Saturday night, a pastor was working late and decided he should call his wife before he left for home. It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn't answer the phone, even though he let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn't answer, so he decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes.
When he tried again, she answered immediately. When he asked her why she hadn't answered before, she told him it didn't ring at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on with the days events.
The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he had used to call his wife that Saturday night. The man who he spoke with wanted to know why he had called him on Saturday. However, the pastor couldn't figure out what the man was talking about.
The man said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer." The pastor then suddenly remembered the phone call to his wife, that she never answered. He apologized for disturbing the man and explained that he had intended to call his wife and must have miss dialed the number.
The man went on, "That's okay. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was depressed and lonely all last Saturday. I just wanted to die and I was planning to commit suicide that night. Before I did, I prayed, 'God if you are really there and you don't want me to do this, please give me a sign now.' It was at that very moment that the phone started to ring. When I looked at the caller ID, it said, 'Almighty God' and I was afraid to answer!"
The pastor knew at that moment, that although his phone call was miss dialed by him, God was working to save the man. He offered to take the man for a bite to eat to see if he was open to counseling. The man quickly accepted and then asked, "What is the name of your church, pastor?" It was then the pastor told him, "Our church is called Almighty God Tabernacle and the Caller ID shows it as 'Almighty God!'
I don't believe in coincidences, but I believe in the power of prayer!! This man was in a desperate situation and it was God who intervened.
Israel was in a desperate situation. The homes of the people and the kings had been demolished. All about them were the ravages of war and the killing by the Chaldeans. The streets were littered with dead bodies of those killed, simply because of the evil actions of those in the city that had caused rage.
That is when God said, "Call to me and I will answer you. I will tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.
God knows exactly what you are going through! He is our Creator, He made the earth, forming and establishing it, He is there to answer the cries of your heart! He is there to show you His wondrous power, for those things which we do not understand or have knowledge to deal with.
He is not shocked or taken back when we are burdened so heavily that we fall into despair! He is waiting for us to cry out to Him, to call upon Him for the help we so desperately need. Never, ever give up -- for God is just a heart cry away!
