1 Peter 4:10
It was a lovely and sunny day amidst the long rainy season. A peacock was dancing gaily and freely in the forest. Elated he began to sing, but was suddenly reminded of his ugly, rough voice. His face paled and his eyes began to water.
Suddenly he saw a nightingale sitting on a nearby tree and she to was singing. As he listened to her, the peacock lamented and moaned, "What a sweet voice she has, it makes everyone love and praise her. But when I utter a sound, everyone makes fun of me. How cursed I am!"
Just then appeared a wise old owl and he asked the peacock, "Why are you so sad, my friend?" The peacock sobbed out, "My tail contains the most spectacular and beautiful feathers. They are filled with large, bright iridescent colors and patterns. When I danced everyone admired their delicacy and artistry. Still, when I opened my mouth to sing, everyone laughed at me! So my beauty is useless!!"
The owl thought for a moment and then replied, "Mr. Peacock, you are the only one who is unhappy. God has gifted several creatures with various skills, beauty and talent like your own. The eagle has strength, the falcon has skilled flying ability and the nightingale a sweet singing voice, so on and so forth. So why grumble and belly ache over your voice? Wouldn't it be more profitable to be thankful and content for what you do have?"
The peacock soon learned to be thankful for all that he had! And now, the peacock was dancing again, not only on lovely days, oh no, the peacock also learned to dance in the rain! In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
A little story with a big message for all of us! What a marvelous concept and a most beautiful thing it would be to always "give thanks" to our God! To shout our thanks from the hilltops and sing anthems of praise for all that we have and all that we are!!
To awake each morning and announce God's faithful presence all through the night!
God's Word tells us we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14 Our God formed us, body and soul and we are marvelously fashioned. We all were made in the image of He who loves us and knows us best! Genesis 1:27 And, we were made for a purpose.
God made each of us for a plan and a project He had in mind. We just need to trust and obey Him, for He knows what He is doing. God will always take care of us and He will never abandon us! God desires are to give us a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 When we pray, when we cry out to Him -- He hears, He listens and He intends on directing us to a goal He has in mind, if we will hear and listen to Him!
When feelings take over, sending messages of despair, DO NOT accept them. Run to the Lord with your fears and inadequacies. Turn your thoughts into active praise. Give thanks to God for all that you are and learn like the peacock... to joyfully accept who you are! For YOU are a child of God!
