Colossians 3:17
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae? the little boy asked. "Fifty cents" replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. Then he asked the waitress, "Well how much is a plain dish of ice cream?"
By now people were still streaming into the coffee shop and several were waiting for the waitress at their tables. Growing inpatient the waitress briskly replied, "Thirty-five cents." The little boy once again counted his coins and then replied, "I'll have the plain ice cream, please."
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. She had been so busy that she didn't notice the little boy had eaten the ice cream, paid the cashier and had left.
When she came back to wipe the table, tears filled her eyes. There placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. The little boy couldn't have the sundae because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.
As Christians... whatever we do must be done with love, no matter what it is... or how big or small it may seem to be. Every detail of our lives, our words, our actions and whatever we do, must be done in the name of our Savior. We must learn to stay in tune with each other and to cultivate thankfulness through our Lord Jesus.
We must always do our best and not just the minimum that will get us by. Work faithfully and willingly at whatever you do, for indeed you are working for the Lord and your reward will be found in Him alone!
When we work from a heart that loves the Lord... we will find joy in all the work that we do!! And those around us, may just catch a glimpse of Jesus, just as the waitress realized when she picked up both her monetary and heavenly tip... after all we are Christ's representatives here on earth.
