One day, a poor young man, was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school. At the end of the day, he was very hungry, but only found one dime in his pocket.
He decided he would ask the next home owner for any leftovers from their evening meal. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman answered the door.
Instead of a meal, he asked her for a cold drink of water. The young woman thought he looked hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk.
He drank it slowly and then asked, "How much do I owe you?" She replied, "You don't owe me anything, mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness!" He said, "Well then, I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was stronger also. He had been ready to give up and quit, but the kindness of the young woman revived his will to go on.
Many years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.
Dr. Howard Kelly was also called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her and he recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life.
From that day on, he gave special attention to the case and after a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval.
He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She was afraid to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all.
Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following words:
"Paid in Full... with one glass of milk!" Signed, Dr. Howard Kelly

When we become Christians, we not only become new creatures in Christ Jesus, we also put on "New Garments." Every item we wear is a custom-made garment from God, that has His stamp of approval. We are now defined by Christ Jesus, chosen by God for our new life of love for and towards one another.
We dress in the wardrobe that God has hand-picked for each of us: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline and even-temperedness. We are content to forgive quickly and completely as our Savior forgave us. And, regardless of anything else we put on, we are always to wear love, our most basic of garments and it is an all-purpose garment for any occasion. We must never be caught without it!
We may never know how our love affects and influences others, and that should never be our goal. We need just love one another each and every day!
And, you will find... that the kindness and love you share... well it always seems to come back to us, ten fold. Have you shared your love with someone today?
